Lace

Designs inspired by antique style cotton lace from a 1956 wedding dress.

Another lace project! I’m still preserving the hand full of lace which was left over from my mum’s wedding dress which she made herself back in 1956. A few years later the dress was turned into a christening dress for me and my sister. This was a time when lace was real! Real coarse cotton! Ideal for printing into thinly rolled silver. A way to preserve the loving memories I have when touching the delicate fabric. I’ve used and blogged about the lace before.

The process. The lace. The bits and pieces. Playing around with imprinted lightweight silver. Trying out different ways of combining them with beads, cotton string….. Trying to figure out what works best, what I feel good about.

And eventually, the results. Extremely light weight. The delicateness of the lace repeated in paper thin silver sheet.
